Some of you have experienced call issues with our automatic calling system, BlackBoard Connect. I have spent hours with their technical assistance department, and the best I can offer you is an explanation, and a “work around.”
The system will at times make a connection with your phone (especially cell phones) before your phone may ring. In this case, your phone would record the message on voicemail, without ringing at all. The other explanation offered is that if for some reason the cell tower is unable to “find” your phone quickly enough, the call may not reach you at all.
So, to work around these issues, check with Penny and ensure that we have all available phone numbers (home, cell, secondary cell, etc.) listed correctly for you in the system. Ask Penny to add the “text” feature to your call, or add your email address so you are getting text, call, and email. Finally, set up the voice mail box on your cell phone if you haven’t done so; this way if you phone doesn’t connect with the system, you would still get the message.
