A $400 check was presented to the boys and girls basketball teams on Thursday April 9th. Ian Taylor and Brent Kulp presented the check to the Boys Basketball Coach Jeff Cole and Girls Assistant Coach Clint Lewis, as well as boys and girls from both teams. The award was for second place in the High School Sports Contest.
South Loup submitted their winter sports games to Great Plains to air on GPC-TV, channel 2. The contest was sponsored by GPC-TV so the family and friends of the players in the Great Plains Communications region could enjoy the games if they were unable to attend.
Students from schools across the state entered YouTube videos created by high school sport teams that showcased their school spirit. The contest received nearly a dozen entries.
As a side note, South Loup also received a High School Sports Award for the Volleyball and Football season last fall. It was awarded in early December. The wrestling team also won an award from Great Plains Communications last April when they submitted a spirit video.
Each year, GPC-TV airs hundreds of hours of local high school sports from the communities it serves. “We were overwhelmed about the creativity and school spirit these students brought to this contest. We are proud to support high school athletics at South Loup,” said Casey Garrigan of Great Plains Communications. With 104 years of experience, the company currently serves 90 communities with 200 employees throughout Nebraska.
